The text is Devore and Peck, Statistics: The Exploration & Analysis
of Data, Fifth edition, ISBN 049510969x. Find it at
Barns and Nobels or Amazon.com .
I suggest ordering a used copy.
I want to use Blackboard for
handling our public interaction. Think of it
as the question and answer part of lecture, whereas this web page will
be like the unidirectional instructor-to-student part. Blackboard also has
a chat feature, which I may use later on, but probably not, since part
of the ground rules given to me are that I shouldn't expect you to all
be available at the same time.

Course Information
In response to a request from a student, I've written a key to the various symbols that we've been
using.
Lectures
I envision this class as being split into 26 lectures, with two each week,
corresponding to the material that I would present in 80 minute lectures.
Below you can find the material for each lecture in two formats, large
and small. You'll need to be able to read pdf files to read these.
You can use a free but proprietary program like Adobe reader, or a
free program like xpdf. Let me know (preferably via a note in Blackboard)
if you have trouble. For each lecture I'll also have a description of
the readings, and a brief narrative introduction. I expect to put the
new material on every Tuesday and Thursday.
I've also added audio for the lecture notes. The lecture notes are in outline
form, with major divisions denoted by Roman numerals, with the next finer
divisions denoted by capital Latin letters, and with the next finer
divisions denoted by arabic numerals. Separate audio files are provided
for each major division of the course, or, when the major division is
particularly large, for the next finer division of the lecture notes.
Thus, Part I is reflected in the first audio file, and parts IIA and IIB are reflected in the next two audio files. All three of these are covered by Lecture 1.
